Internal Communications

Our team delivers strategic internal communications that keep employees informed, engaged, and aligned with organizational objectives. We manage key internal channels, produce meaningful and timely content, and support initiatives through clear and consistent messaging. From change management to culture-building campaigns, our work fosters transparency, boosts morale, and ensures that every employee—from the lab bench to the executive office—shares a common understanding and purpose.

Weekly Staff Meetings

Weekly Touch Base Calls, monthly Info Share meetings, and Touch Point videos keep staff stay aligned, informed, and engaged—wherever they are.

Originally introduced as a proactive engagement tool, our center-wide weekly check-ins became even more vital during the COVID-19 lockdown. They evolved from a routine practice to a critical component of our team’s success during the lockdown, supporting both our professional objectives and our collective wellbeing.

They are a lasting part of our communication culture. The meetings are now hybrid, supporting flexible participation and stronger collaboration across the center.

A multidisciplinary team manages the event logistics, messaging, writing and editing, design, content production, and event execution.

State of the Center

The State of the Center event exemplifies the strength of cross-disciplinary collaboration between communicators, writers, designers, and producers, creating an immersive experience centered on the center’s priorities and achievements.

We improved upon previous events with a bold visual refresh, revamping the conference backdrop and materials for the first time in seven years. Design elements include a step and repeat, conference backdrop, presentation, and other event graphics. The design’s balance of aesthetics and functionality resulted in a polished and inspiring look.

We also reimagined year-end reflections by replacing the traditional slideshow with a moving video that brought the center’s accomplishments to life in a concise and engaging manner.

One big highlight was a live talkback session with NCCDPHP Director Dr. Karen Hacker and CDC Director Dr. Mandy Cohen, allowing staff to interact directly with leadership.

The result was a thoughtfully designed event that informed, inspired, and connected staff.

Our team managed all aspects of event production, including planning, writing, design, and video production, event coordination, and logistics.

Center Intranet

The intranet site is a centralized hub for NCCDPHP that transforms internal communication from basic updates into a vibrant platform that fosters engagement and community.

It uses interactive features to celebrate staff achievements, facilitate resource sharing, significantly boost morale during challenging times. This shift cultivates a sense of belonging among employees and helps sustain our communication culture and the positive momentum that emerged during the pandemic.

The platform brings together essential updates—staff news, events, leadership messages, and highlights of center-wide initiatives. It offers quick access to resources, tools, and collaboration opportunities. Its interactive features cultivate engagement and knowledge sharing, helping everyone stay aligned and engaged.

A multidisciplinary team of designers, writers and editors, UX/UI specialists, and web developers collaborate to build, maintain, and continuously improve the intranet.

Connecting the Center

Inside NCCDPHP is the center’s flagship internal newsletter designed to keep staff informed, engaged, and connected. Each issue highlights center initiatives, celebrates staff accomplishments, and shares helpful resources, providing a snapshot of the work driving NCCDPHP’s mission.

It is one of several internal communication products managed by our team, including Chronic Disease in the News, a roundup of relevant media coverage, and the NCCDPHP Consolidated Daily Announcement for timely updates. Additionally, interactive digital signage showcases key messages and events in real time.

A collaborative team of writers, editors, graphic designers, communication strategists, and digital specialists ensures that content is timely, clear, visually engaging, and aligned with center goals, helping staff stay informed and inspired.

Center Conversations

The Office of Communication supports internal events that foster meaningful dialogue, learning, and collaboration around public health priorities and projects. Signature events—Critical Conversations, Table Talks, and Lunch and Learns—give staff opportunities to engage with leadership, share ideas, and explore key topics in both formal and informal settings.

OC staff manage event logistics, develop engaging content, and promote participation across the center. Two recent events—focused on Anti-Obesity Medications and Climate & Chronic Disease—drew over 900 attendees, sparking impactful conversations and strengthening cross-center knowledge-sharing and engagement.

Behind the scenes, event coordinators handle the logistics, content developers and writers create engaging materials, and communications specialists promote the events to ensure strong participation.

Leadership Connections

These sessions foster open dialogue, allowing participants to ask questions, share ideas, offer suggestions, or engage in casual conversation. With both virtual and in-person formats, they’re accessible to all staff.

To encourage broad participation, the promotes these opportunities through various channels, including digital signage, intranet updates, email announcements, and center-wide meetings. This multifaceted approach not only raises awareness but also encourages broad participation, helping to create a welcoming space for two-way communication across the center.

By facilitating these interactions, the communication team enhances collaboration and strengthens the overall effectiveness of workforce development initiatives.
